AIFIS encourages the learning of Bahasa Indonesia, as well as the many other languages spoken throughout the archipelago.  With hundreds of different languages spoken throughout the islands, Indonesian is one of the most linguistically diverse nations in the world.  Below are a list of resources to help scholars develop their language skills.

Arizona State University: ASU offers short, intensive summer courses in Bahasa Indonesia, both 8 week courses in Tempe, and a 12 week course which includes a four week trip to Bali.

BASAbali:  BASAbali, or Bahasa Bali, is a web resource offering information and tutorials on learning Balinese language.  The site offers dictionaries, tutorials, and other resources.

Cambridge Dictionary Indonesian-English:  This is a thorough online dictionary of Bahasa Indonesia designed for English language speakers.

Consortium for the Teaching of Indonesian Language (COTI):  COTI is an organization based at Cornell University that offers information, resources, summer workshops, resources and training for the study of Indonesian language, Bahasa Indonesia.

Indonesian Online:  Based out of the University of Hawai'i, Indonesian Online offers a series of 5 online courses for beginning to advanced students of Bahasa Indonesia.

Javanese Dictionary:  Hosted by Lexilogos, this dictionary includes online coursework, maps, and historical information about the Javanese language.

Learning Indonesian:  Learning Indonesian is a series of podcasts and booklets designed to help develop a basic understanding of conversational Indonesian.

Southeast Asian Studies Summer Institute (SEASSI):  Based out of the University of Wisconsin, SEASSI offers intensive language courses each summer for undergraduate and graduate students interested in learning different languages from Southeast Asia.
