The American Institute for Indonesian Studies (AIFIS) is a non-profit (501c3) educational organization incorporated in the United States. It was established with the generous financial support of The Henry Luce Foundation, the U.S. Department of Education and the Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs in the United States and the Putera Sampoerna Foundation in Indonesia. AIFIS is a consortium of American universities and colleges that have expressed a keen interest in furthering the development of Indonesian studies in the United States. Its main goals are to foster scholarly exchange between Indonesian and U.S. scholars, to promote educational and research efforts by U.S. scholars in Indonesia, and to facilitate visits by Indonesian scholars to the United States. AIFIS has opened a research office in Jakarta in the Sampoerna University, L’Avenue Building, 5th Floor, Building 1, Jl. Raya Pasar Minggu-Pancoran, Jakarta Selatan, We launched our activities on January 9, 2012.
American Institute for Indonesian Studies (AIFIS) adalah organisasi non-profit (501c3) yang bergerak di bidang pendidikan dan didirikan di Amerika Serikat. AIFIS didirikan dengan dukungan finansial dari Yayasan Henry Luce, Department of Education di Amerika Serikat, dan Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs di Amerika Serikat serta Putera Sampoerna Foundation di Indonesia. AIFIS sendiri merupakan konsorsium dari universitas-universitas dan perguruan tinggi di Amerika yang mempunyai minat dalam pengembangan Studi tentang Indonesia yang ada di Amerika Serikat. Tujuan utama didirikannya AIFIS adalah untuk mendorong kerjasama dan kolaborasi riset antar para peneliti dan akademisi Indonesia dan Amerika, mempromosikan kerjasama akademik di Amerika Serikat dan Indonesia, serta memfasilitasi kunjungan pendidikan antar akademisi dan peneliti di Amerika Serikat dan Indonesia. AIFIS di Indonesia berlokasi di kampus Sampoerna University , L’Avenue Building, Gedung 1, Lt.5, Jl. Raya Pasar Minggu-Pancoran, Jakarta Selatan. Kegiatan-kegiatan program kerja AIFIS telah dimulai sejak 9 Januari 2012.
As AIFIS has grown over the years, the organization collaborates with a number of different organizations, including WatchDoc Indonesia, the Cornell University Southeast Asia Program, the Putera Sampoerna Foundation and University, the Smithsonian Institution, the Henry Luce Foundation, CAORC, the Department of State (Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs), and Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Hasanuddin, Universitas Brawijaya, Universitas Atma Jaya, Universitas Pelita Harapan and many other academic institutions in the U.S. and Indonesia.
