BACKGROUND
In a crisis situation due to Covid-19, the mass media has two important functions, namely to conduct watchdogs and to educate. In term of conducting watchdogs, the media should be able to help government by closely monitoring every policy and concrete steps taken by the government in combating Covid-19. With the regard to the function of education, the mass media need to develop correlative news by linking different angles of the story, with different perspectives, and balancing different interpretations so as to produce cohesive and clear news content. This webinar session will explore whether media in the U.S. and Indonesia play roles in these two functions during Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, this webinar will also explore how the media in these two countries frame their news coverage during Covid-19 crisis. Last but not least, this session will discuss the future of media post-Covid-19 pandemic.
